Go the Distance with Waterproof Running Shoes

I've become a fairly serious runner over the course of the past couple of years. This wasn't something I planned on doing. It's just something that evolved from aerobic walking to light jogging, and now to serious training for my first marathon. If you'd told me two years ago that I would be getting ready for a marathon, I would have laughed at you. But here I am, and I feel great!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not out to compete for the win or set world records. I just want to push my physical limits and challenge myself to do more. But even though I won't be anywhere near the front of the pack, it's still absolutely critical that I stick to my rigorous training schedule. This can be tough, though, especially when the weather doesn't cooperate. That's why I decided to invest in waterproof running shoes and gear.

With waterproof running shoes, jackets, shorts, and gloves, I can keep training outdoors no matter what Mother Nature decides to throw my way. With the right equipment, I'll be able to enjoy a certain degree of comfort even in the pouring rain. Like most runners, I would of course prefer putting in my miles in fantastic weather with the sun shining on my back, but obviously that's not going to happen every day -- particularly since I don't live in Southern California or Florida. At least my waterproof running shoes help keep my feet as dry as possible during my runs, allowing me to avoid blisters and other problems as I maintain my schedule.

A lot of my friends ask why I don't skip the waterproof running shoes and simply take my training indoors when it rains. After all, the local gym has a nice track and several state-of-the-art treadmills that I can use in a climate-controlled environment. To tell the truth, I do sometimes run inside when the weather is just downright nasty. But I think it's important to battle the elements once in a while. It builds character, as they say, and really tests my ability to stay focused on the task at hand. If I can't make it through a practice run because I'm worried about a little wind and rain, how am I supposed to last for 26.2 miles on race day? And what if it rains during the actual race? I'll be glad of my waterproof running shoes then!

I don't look forward to training in the rain or anything like that, but I'm not going to let the weather throw me off my game. As long as I have a good pair of waterproof running shoes and some other decent gear, I'll be out there every morning putting in my required miles.
