Volunteer Nonprofit

With March recently being proclaimed as Red Cross Month by President Barack Obama, the third month of year becomes an ideal time to seek out nonprofit volunteer opportunities for providing relief to those who are in need. The American Red Cross provides various services such as running blood drives, providing shelter and comfort to disaster victims, educating the community with lifesaving skills and collecting charity for humanitarian causes. Choosing to volunteer nonprofit at American Red Cross is a great way to give back to the community by essentially saving lives.

The difference between for profit and nonprofit is that for profit organizations work for the financial gain of their owners and shareholders, while nonprofit organizations donate any profits earned to the cause they support. When it comes to deciding whether to volunteer for-profit or to volunteer nonprofit, many people choose to volunteer for nonprofit organizations because they believe that aid should be altruistic in nature. The majority of the American Red Cross workforce consists of individuals who volunteer their services. For these people, helping others is truly for the sake of helping and not for self-gain. Volunteering to provide relief is in itself a rewarding experience.

While people who volunteer nonprofit might have a similar mindset regarding relief, they might diverge in the ways that they want to help. Fortunately, there are many different ways that volunteers can provide services with American Red Cross. If volunteers want to work in a domestic setting, they might teach classes that equip people with important skills like first aid and CPR. They might also help collect blood donations across the country. Those who interested in working on an international scale can train communities around the world in disaster preparedness or work to reunite family members separated by war. And volunteering doesnt necessarily have to constitute tangible servicesnonprofit volunteers can help by simply providing a comforting shoulder and a listening ear. Providing emotional support to victims of accidents or natural disasters is an invaluable service that is just as important as any other relief mechanisms. People have different strengths and interests and they should volunteer their time accordingly. Relief is most effective when it is fueled by the desire to help along with passion and skill.

Red Cross Month is a great time to lend a helping hand, but you can take advantage of volunteer nonprofit opportunities at any time of the year and with many different organizations besides American Red Cross. The important thing is not so much who youre helping with, but that youre helping in the first place. Help comes in many forms and from many places, and it is always welcome regardless.
