Work From Home: Find Data Entry Jobs Now

As I slog through another day in my cubicle, I can't help but think that it would be so much better if I could just work from home. I wouldn't have to deal with a long commute through bumper-to-bumper traffic that barely moves, I wouldn't have to interact with obnoxious coworkers who do nothing but distract me from my tasks, and I wouldn't have to spend hundreds of dollars on keeping my closet filled with suitable business attire. At first, I thought that only entrepreneurs or Internet gurus could make a great living from their home office, but after some research, I learned that there are plenty of data entry jobs out there that would be perfect for me.

I might not be able to put together a fancy website, but I can type quickly and accurately. Plus, I'm a self-starter who doesn't need someone hovering over my shoulder to ensure that I complete projects in a timely fashion, so I think I would be an excellent candidate for some of the online data entry jobs I've seen advertised. Most of the positions require little to no extra training at all, as they consist of simple word processing or general transcription duties. The data entry jobs that involve medical coding and billing do entail a bit more of a learning curve, but I'll probably stay away from those at the beginning.

From what I've seen, the application process for home-based data entry jobs is very straightforward. All you have to do is find a company that's hiring or go to a job database to search for open positions. Then you usually fill out an application form and take a typing test to measure your speed and accuracy. If you pass this initial screening, you'll get a phone call to set up an interview -- either onsite, over the telephone, or via video conferencing. Then you just have to wait to hear if you're hired or not, just as you would for any other job.

You should bear in mind, however, that there are lots of scams out there as well. For instance, if a prospective "employer" expects you to pay a fee of any kind, whether they call it a registration fee, membership fee, training fee, or what have you, that's usually a red flag. Legitimate data entry jobs don't require you to part with money at any time, so be on the lookout for people looking to take advantage of you.

Fortunately, there are numerous bona fide data entry jobs available for people who want to make a good living from home. I've already applied to a handful of companies that want to hire telecommuters, and am confident that I'll hear back from at least one of them soon. I'm looking forward to the day when I can say goodbye to my cubicle for good!
