Computer Virus Protection

The proliferation of viruses in recent years has no doubt influenced the need to develop more reliable and efficient anti virus products, anti spyware and malware protection software. As new virus variants and different modes of attack have developed, computer virus protection has not been enough to counteract such attacks that seem to come from all directions. Anti virus products thus no longer provide protection in just one way, but it has become increasingly necessary to have not just an anti virus software application but a security software application.

Even in the face of increasing threats, computer virus protection systems should not impair the normal operations of the systems upon which they are installed. To the software authors, this is indeed a very difficult task given what is expected of most security software suites. One of the most destructive threats on the internet are Trojans. Destructive Trojans are a threat to any computer network and what makes them effective is their unlikelihood of not being detected by your computer virus protection software.

Some of the most common problems that become evident on an infected system are denial of services (DDoS). This means that if your computer system is infected, it will generate heavy traffic from infected users that will eventually overwhelm the victims bandwidth thereby resulting in internet shutdown. Computer virus protection software that is effective will also help to protect the victims computer from being used as a proxy server that can in turn be used to make anonymous purchases with stolen credit cards and other illegal activities. A compromised system can be used to launch attacks to outside networks and if detected and tracked, this can result in legal trouble for you and your organization.

Good computer virus protection software should also be very good at detecting rootkits. These are mechanisms used by spyware, Trojans and viruses to hide their presence from installed security systems and system management utilities. Rootkits allow unauthorized access to the system. Since they replace and modify system files their removal can sometimes be very difficult. From the above it is clear that good computer virus protection software needs to have all-round protection ability. As more complex viruses, Trojans and backdoor programs continue to come up, the internet will continue to be a hostile environment. A good protection and security system can thus go a long way in ensuring that such threats are contained in time.
