Breast Enhancers - Brought to you by the Friendly Folks who Sell you Snake Oil

Cosmetic treatments - breast enhancers, bottom enhancers, plastic surgery - all provide us with endless hours of entertainment as the media makes fun of women who get these done. And there have been horrifying shows on TV about cosmetic procedures gone horribly wrong. For some reason, in a medical environment in America that is so tightly regulated, there is plenty of room for cosmetic quackery. The quacks often offer treatment alternatives that no self-respecting legitimate doctor would; one of the most popular is a twist on the standard breast implant everyone knows of. Breast implants are soft plastic sacs filled with liquid silicone. The quack treatment involves injecting the liquid silicone directly into the body where a little extra plumping is needed. Breast enhancers like this are completely illegal; there is no telling where the silicone could run into, once inside the body.

There were reports not long ago of a Latina lady in the Bronx in New York City who died after receiving silicone injections as breast enhancers. Medical examiners found that the silicone had somehow found its way into her lungs, and given her an embolism. As unauthorized and illegal as the whole sick scheme is for its potential to disfigure and kill, liquid silicone is great in the black market; women pay a couple thousand dollars a shot, so that they can have more shapely breasts and legs.

One of the places that liquid silicone breast enhancers are the most popular is among trans-genders, people who have undergone some kind of male to female transformation; they love this stuff for its ability to round out their appearance, especially with their legs and their breasts. The transgender community probably cannot do without silicone as breast enhancers. There apparently have been at least 50 people dead over the last 10 years for backstreet cosmetic activity like this. The government doesn't exactly keep statistics on this; it considers this illegal activity and does not really see the point using its resources regulating such careless personal choice. But regulate it must. The CDC and the FDA are just beginning to record deaths and injuries that occur from breast enhancers that involve liquid silicone. For instance, there have been six deaths in North Carolina alone in these past couple of years from liquid silicone injections.

Liquid silicone is indeed a part of the legitimate medical scene; but it is not for cosmetic purposes. It is for the treatment of eye disorders as they occur in HIV victims. These back alley practices are all about crude methods for very little cash. Sometimes, as liquid silicone is not available, the butchers are known to inject petroleum jelly, or even paraffin. The procedure for breast enhancers with liquid silicone involves visits over as many as 10 weeks, and 20 injections. Just imagine what it feels like to inject a poisonous material in your body just for its inflating properties. Only rarely are these unqualified cosmetic practitioners ever sentenced to anything. And that is what keeps the trade going.
