Getting Exercise During Pregnancy

You may feel like throwing up for the first three months of your pregnancy, and you may feel that you can not move during the last three. One of the last things on you mind while you are pregnant might be exercise, but that does not mean that you should stop working out. If you have never been too keen on exercise, now is the time to start. Exercise during pregnancy is not only important for the mom, it is helpful during the birth process as well. Move while you can, but do not do the wrong things either.

Exercise during pregnancy is important. You can not allow yourself to become out of shape if you can help it. You should gain weight while you are expecting a baby, but not too much. If you find some time to do safe exercises, you can keep your weight gain in a healthy range. Your doctor can tell you what the range would be. It depends on your starting weight, your overall health, and even how many babies you are carrying. Many women who gain a lot while pregnant never get it off afterwards. You don't want that to be you.

One of the best ways of getting exercise during pregnancy is to go walking. This is safe as long as you are not tripping over your own two feet. Some women run while pregnant, but those that do usually did so beforehand. If you are new to running, save it until later. Instead, go for a walk. Your doctor can give you other options as well. Swimming is a great way to get in exercise no matter how far along you are. Some women that can not do anything else near the end can still swim quite comfortably.

There are some types of exercise during pregnancy that are not safe and should be avoided. Talk to your doctor about these as well. You do not want to do anything that poses a falling risk. You also do not want to do something that could injure you or the baby. It might be safe to say that horseback riding or jumping on a trampoline are not the best choices, especially near the end of the pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about what you like to do, and then continue with what is safe and take up some new types if appropriate.

For many women, one of the most important reasons to get moving would involved back pain and giving birth. When the baby grows, it puts a lot of pressure on the spine. If you do any type of exercise, you are keeping your back muscles strong. This can eliminate or at least lessen the pain you are going to feel in the last trimester. Also, some exercise is good for the muscles that you are going to use when you give birth. Your doctor can tell you some good exercise during pregnancy routines that can help with that very thing. Any exercise you can do to lessen the stress on your body during labor is essential for a happy and healthy Mommy and baby.
