For celebrity watchers, last year had plenty of conversation material in the fashion department. Stars went down the hair makeover route over and over again to liven up appeal, or, sometimes, for a part; and they made for some pretty memorable transformations. It could be argued that models don't really stay in touch with their adoring public; who really could connect to those walking mannequins wearing those puffed up fashion oddities you see on the ramp, wearing their hair up like they were just dipped headfirst into molten wax ? Actresses can't really afford that kind of aloofness; they depend on being accessible, and they need their hairstyles and clothes to be things you would just clap your hand over your mouth for, because you can just imagine how you would look in them. Halle Berry has to be one of the most accessible superstars out there. She started her new year last year with a cute and rich curl-filled look with her hair down to her shoulders. With her kind of vivacity though, one well-done hairstyle was hardly enough to express herself with.
Before spring was out, Halle had it shortened somewhat to the nape of her neck, so that she could wear it in a bleached do that stylishly swept over one side of her face. She ended the year though, with a conspicuously crossed boyish cut that showed off her ears and made her look extra pixie-like. Speaking of pixies, the tiny Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has had her swept-back supershort look for quite some time now; and it made her look as childlike and adorable as it made her a little unapproachable. All of that went away in October '09 though, when she showed up at a Lakers game with her hair all fashionably mussed up as if she'd just gotten off a motorcycle, helmet-free. In the area of hair makeovers, this one has to be a winner.
Jada Pinkett Smith has worn some spartan hairstyles in the past that went well with her appeal of inner (not to mention outer) strength, and spiritual calm. She showed up at red carpet events in February last year with a very earthy braided look, and African ethnic earrings. But by summer, she had been bitten by the bug and her hair makeovers began. She followed up with very glossy and feminine looking hair extensions that went halfway down her back. The quickest of turnovers in hair makeovers was for the blonde Kate Hudson who briefly, in summer last year, wondered what it would be like to experiment with a brunette look. She looked great enough, but to her admittedly higher standards, it looks like the blonde look was her own after all. She went back a mere two months later.
Kristen Stewart had those darling long chestnut tresses in the movie Twilight. It made her look all vulnerable, and innocent. But duty called, and she needed to look the part of something more theaters for The Runaways. She turned in a kind of black Gothic look, with her hair all tangled up. You could call it punk. You just have to give her a wailing ax , put her on stage, and you would have your grunge rocker right there. Getting those hair makeovers all right is all about a little vision and a little personal. Of course the stars have people they can hire for that kind of detail.
