Shaving your winter beard for summer comfort? Tips on beard

Shaving your winter beard for summer comfort? Tips on beard removal for smooth dudes!

In colder climates, lots of men grow a beard during the winter months for warmth, a new look and to eliminate the daily shave routine. Come summer, the beard may become inconvenient, both for comfort and you being tired of taking care while eating those bits of food that may occasionally drop onto your beard, unnoticed until you look in the mirror!

So you decide you'll trade in the beard for the daily shave. You'd think that beard removal is a pretty straightforward proposition, until you get started. By the time the beard removal project is complete, you've got several cuts, burned, abraded and a 'beard line' of pale skin. Then you begin to wonder why you didn't just leave it alone! Here we've got a few tips on how to complete the beard removal process without a snag.

The first thing to keep in mind is that your skin will be unaccustomed to the abrasiveness of any shaver, whether an electric or regular razor. The dry air of winter may produce dry patches of skin underneath the beard and an ingrown hair or two, making the shave a more perilous project than usual.

Step one is to take a sharp pair of scissors to that beard. If it's really bushy, use repeated cuttings to get your beard down to a manageable shaving job. Ideally, what remains of your beard should be just inch long and no more than inch. For the easiest beard removal, make those hairs stand up by applying an astringent, such as an after shave lotion or Witch Hazel, which closes the pores around the hair follicles. Allow a few minutes to dry.

Using the side-burn cutting attachment of your electric razor, shave the beard area as thoroughly as possible. Lather up with shaving cream and go for the final pass with a regular razor blade or shaving head of the electric razor. A regular razor blade is usually gentler on your skin than repeated passes with the electric shaving heads.

When your beard removal is completed to your satisfaction, again use an astringent to close the pores and prevent infection. Let your skin recover for about fifteen minutes.

The paler skin, underneath your beard is probably now much in evidence. If it's a nice day, sit out in the sun for just ten or fifteen minutes to bring a little evenness to your overall skin tone. Don't overdo this. If you schedule your 'big shave' for the weekend, you can get a few short sun exposures in before Monday morning.

While most men aren't into face creams, a little lotion will help smooth out any dry patches accumulated over the winter. When you go out in the sun, use a sunscreen to prevent sunburn. An SPF-15 sunscreen will prevent burning, while still allowing you to get a bit of color back to that pale skin.

Following these steps to beard removal makes your transition from bearded guy to smooth dude easy and painless.
