School Book Covers

Though not all schools do it, many ask that students cover their books to reduce wear and tear for the duration of the school year. Students that are using a lot of notebooks may not have to worry about putting school book covers over a lot of the books they are using for the year, but those with hard covered texts are going to have to find a way to cover them. There are many ways to so this, ranging from trendy covers you can get in the stores to using paper bags or white paper to make them at a lower cost. Either way, covered books last longer, and are also a fashion statement for some students.

The school book covers you can buy are going to vary in size. If you get the biggest size and then trim them to fit, these should cover just about any book your child will get to use throughout the school year. They should come with instructions, but putting them on is not too hard. You may have to use tape, so check them periodically to make sure it does not need to be reinforced. These covers come in many new patterns and designs, and are usually made of a very durable material at a great price. Even if you have six kids, buying what you need should be inexpensive.

Your school aged children will love picking out their own school book covers. They can find single colors that they love, or they can find patterns that work for them. Some have characters, and some have a lot of detail. If you want to allow your kids to make them up as they want them, you can get the single colors, or you can get plain white. If you feel that the covers you bought are not thick enough, layer them so that they have more strength. Have left overs so they can be replaced throughout the year if they rip, tear, or get cut.

If you want to make school book covers on your own, all you need is a pile of brown paper bags that you can get any time you shop at your local grocery store. These make great covers and usually last the entire year. Some have printing on them, so make sure you put the plain side (the inside of the bag) out so that the printing is hidden. You can then cut them and fold them just like the ones you would buy from the store to put over your kid's school texts for the year.

For fun and originality, allow your kids to decorate them any way they wish. You can get letter stickers so they can put what the book is on the outside. You can allow them to use just about anything you have for crafts to draw on them or add any touch they want. Just make sure they don't use beads or anything that may get in the way of them stacking their books. These will fall off of school book covers really quickly anyway. Markers, crayons, thin ribbons, stickers, and even glitter are great items they can use to make their covers their own.
