What To Do About Common Eye Problems

There are very serious things that can happen to your eyes and your eyesight that need to be addressed by an eye doctor. Some of these things can mean blindness or severely compromised vision. There are also smaller eye problems that can be nothing more than a nuisance, but as you know, anything less than perfect vision is annoying to say the very least. Some common eye issues can lead to bigger problems if not cleared up, and others are just irritations that need some time to go away. There are some things you can do on your own for these simple things to rid yourself of your more common eye irritations.

If you switch between contacts and glasses, some common eye problems may occur when you are driving. While you may think that glasses cause a bigger glare at night, you may find that your contacts are what are making your eyes tired while you are driving after dark. If you feel that you are wide awake, but your eyes are feeling awfully tired, it is time to pull over, take out your contacts, and put on your glasses. Your eyes will not have to work as hard to avoid bright lights and see in the dark. Of all eye problems, this is probably one of the easiest to fix as long as you have a safe place where you to pull over.

When your eyes are feeling sore in the morning and you have a lot of stuff there when you wake up, you may have one of two problems. One of the most common reasons for these eye problems is allergies, but if you have allergies, you have red, tired, and sore eyes all day long. If this is just happening to you when you wake up, you may want to get an air filter in your bedroom at night. Irritants like dust and hair are probably what are causing your eye problems when you wake up if you don't have the same problem for the rest of the day. If you do have it all day long, consider allergy medication.

Sties are common eye problems that can crop up for a variety of reasons. For the most part, this happens when you have something in your eye that irritates it or if you have not been washing your hands as you should have been. A sty is usually quite painful, but will go away on its own given a few days. If it does not go away and gets larger and more painful, you should go in to see your eye doctor. You can apply cool washcloths to your eye to help with some of the pain and rinse your eye if you feel something may be in there. If you have gotten feces on your eye, you may develop pink eye, which needs medical attention. A sty does not usually occur with pink eye, but it can happen.

If you are getting headaches that come along with eye fatigue, you either need glasses or your prescription is not up to date. You should have your eyes checked once a year if you wear contacts and you need an update every three years for glasses. Your eyes can stay the same for years on end and then change drastically without notice when you have vision problems like far or near sightedness. These are eye problems that can only be fixed with an office visit. Always keep up with your eye sight or you could do even more damage by waiting.
